Syllabus
Course Overview:
The Resurrected Jesus, after quoting Isaiah, told the Nephites and Lamanintes in America: "ye ought to search these things. Yea, a commandment I give unto you that ye search these things diligently; for great are the words of Isaiahâ ." (3 Nephi 23:1). The goal of this class is that you walk away knowing why Jesus would say that.

Class Details:
Thursday Nights
8:00 - 9:00 p.m.
Jan 15 - Apr 30, 2026
What to Expect:
Brother Dunford's style is mostly presentation. His goal is to cover a breadth and depth of the scriptures that you have not seen; such that you walk away from class each day saying, "I've never made that connection before!"
Participation by students is voluntary and appreciated, but not expected. You will never be called upon to speak, but if you raise your hand, your response will be welcomed and your insight valued.
This course is quite fluid. Brother Dunford will bring a suggested outline of topics to discuss, but that outline can and will be adjusted to meet the needs and desires of the class. Students are encouraged to suggest topics they would like discussed.
Ways to Participate:
There are three ways to participate in this class:
- In-person at the Jordan Institute (3431 W Wights Fort Rd; West Jordan, UT 84088)
- Join live via Zoom HERE.
- Listen to the recordings of the class posted a day or so afterwards. Find them HERE.
Credit:
This class is a non-traditional, shortened course designed to meet the current needs of young adults. It is not intended as a for-credit class. If you would like credit for the class, please do the following:
- Attend or listen to 12 of the 16 classes.
- Read something of your choice that will improve your understanding of and your appreciation of the symbols or covenants of the temple and how they lead us to Christ. It should require at least 360 minutes total (about 30 mintues per class). Please send me a very brief summary at the end of the class.
- Complete an Elevate Learning Project. This could include a study journal, a short written paper, a presenation to family or friends, or something similar. It would elevate what you learned in class.
Your learning is your responsibility. Therefore, all I need is a summary of what you did and for you to tell me that you completed all three requirements.
If you have any questions, please speak to me.
